Project Description

A Design by Perugino

Ricco Deruta

Together with Raffaellesco, this 16th century design is the most classic example of majolica from Deruta.

The pattern is made up of scrolled floral elements from the borders of Renaissance plates divided into sections. The design comes from frescoes by Perugino at the “Collegio del Cambio” in Perugia.

This pattern marked a change from the archaic majolica of the 12th century because we see the first use of yellow, orange and blue, previously only green and brown were used.
